Promotion : Introduction

Promotion is available from Yr9 onwards, after the compulsory year. The highest rank is that of Senior Under Officer (SUO) and Cadet Under Officer (CUO) in Yr12. The aim of promotion courses is to qualify trainees for promotion to the next rank and provide skills that will add to the boy's overall life skills. While passing these courses is a prerequisite for promotion, it does not guarantee promotion. There are always a greater number of qualified personnel than there are vacancies and cadets are selected based on their performance and reporting history in cadets as well as their performance in the course.

Promotion cycle
The promotion cycle is 12-monthly with cadets promoted each September, if eligible and if a position exists.

To be eligible for promotion, a cadet must have completed the relevant course and have favourable reports from adult staff and senior cadet staff.  The success of a cadet's promotion, once eligibility is confirmed, relates to the preferences of position the cadet has nominated and the availability of that position.
